It has been a long time since updating my website and a great deal has changed in my personal and professional life in that time. Earlier this year, I returned home from my annual weekend with girlfriends (are we still girls at this age?) and I kept reliving one particular conversation that seemed to be the focus for the entire weekend - what is important to you for the rest of your life? I don't know if my friends returned home with the same nagging unanswered question or if they already knew the answer, but, for me, I realized that I have never allowed myself to answer the question honestly. In conversations with my husband, along with daily journal writing, I have tried to come up with the foundation to form an answer. I am grateful for everything that I have and all that I have done. However, I have realized I do have something unique in today's world that few of my friends have. Most of my family, including my grandchildren (three adorable little people), are all in this area. I am able to visit and interact with my grown children as much or as often as possible without wearing out my welcome (I hope). So, what has this meant and how does it impact the question of what is important to me for the rest of my life? I have decided to become more mindful - I want to be present in my life; I want to be an involved spouse, parent, grandparent and friend; I want to be able to visit my New York City daughters as often as their schedules' permit (after all, it is only a 3 hour train ride). I want to perfect my skills to be the best maker of super hero capes and little chef aprons, cooking mitts and hats. I want to continue stitching Sashiko designs because Sashiko continues to be a calming, centering, peaceful practice that works for me and it turns out that Sashiko designs are both beautiful and the perfect personal element to include on small size quilted jackets, pants and hats for the three adorables! I want to continue to be grateful. While I have scaled back on what I am doing with Contemporary Sashiko, I still offer multiple day garment classes, trunk shows, and workshops. I am also continuing to develop my creative side and maintain a journal of ideas for future projects and products. Well, the Annual Girlfriend Weekend is only a few short months away and my only hope is that I don't return home with another unanswered life question. Addressing and answering this year's question has been challenging; however, I am happy with the focus and clarity it has brought to my life. I hope you too are finding the answers to life's challenging questions and are finding peace in your decisions. Happy sewing, Nancy
