Nancy Shriber is a nationally recognized artist, teacher, lecturer, and writer.
She is a member of the teaching faculty of The Sewing Workshop in San Francisco, California, a member of the Visiting Adjunct Faculty at the Southwest School of Arts and Crafts in San Antonio, Texas and an instructor and lecturer for the American Sewing Guild (ASG) and Original Sewing and Quilt Expo (OS&QE) Conferences.
Nancy originated and operates "Under Myrtle's Influence", her custom design studio where she designs and constructs one-of-a-kind garments under the CONTEMPORARY SASHIKO™ label. She has developed a large number of creative and innovative design techniques and has published numerous articles in a wide variety of national publications, including Threads Magazine, where she is a contributing author. Nancy's work has been featured several times in Threads' Magazine, including the cover of the 15th anniversary issue, the "Threads Magazine Design Challenge" (which included the work of three nationally recognized designers), and the back cover of the upcoming 20th anniversary issue. Nancy was also honored to be the featured artist in a segment on the Sew Much More program on the Home and Garden cable television network.
In addition to an extensive portfolio of seminars, lectures, and classes nationwide, Nancy has designed and presented an assortment of trunk, runway, and one-women shows. She has participated in and received recognition from many juried competitions, including the Bernina Fashion Show; the East Coast Quilters Alliance; a double first place award in both the painting and embellishment categories at the Fiesta en Santa Fe; and a second place award at the Mid-Atlantic Wearable Arts Festival, where she also won the prestigious Viewers' Choice Award for a complete garment ensemble two years in a row.
Nancy is an elected member of the National League of American Pen Women in both the Arts and Letters Divisions. She has published a book titled: "Sashiko Handbags: 14 on 14", and she designed, created and produced The Garment Series, a series of pillow and tote bag patterns. Nancy is also the designer of Start Sew Simple™ I and II, A Handbag Kit, for the OS&QE, a project that donates all proceeds to Women's Health Care Initiatives of the American Heart Association and Juvenile Diabetes research organizations.
Nancy has three grown children and lives in Springfield, VA with her husband Maurice and their two adorable dogs, Ella and Beaumont.
